Aerospace:

Custom Mechanisms (Deployers)

I have worked on a variety of custom deploy / retract mechanisms and telescoping booms designed to survive vibe testing and meet other rigorous aerospace standards, at both the prototype & flight level.

I have experience designing solar array infrastructure, deployable scaffolding, and have deeply enjoyed the design challenges of such a rigorous industry.

Medical: 

CoolSeal® Generator

I designed the mechanical enclosure for an advanced bipolar RF energy surgical vessel sealer for both laparoscopic and open procedures in both pediatric and adult care. This product more closely resembles high-quality Bose stereo equipment vs. the legacy plastic injection molded enclosure designs.

Extensive problem solving was required to transform an impeccable industrial design into reality. This cost--effective and robust product is truly a next generation device that has global market share.

User experience, quality, and functionality were critical program requirements.  This product won the Vizient Product Award and the company that developed it was acquired for $160 million

Endomagnetic Actium Biosystem Bladder Cancer Ferrofluid Treatment Device

Medical: 

Bladder Cancer Treatment Device

I designed & built a cancer treatment device that enclosed electromagnetic coils (sized to slide a human inside).  We demonstrated proof of concept in the animal lab then sold the intellectual property.

Other Product Development: 

  • Fluid management - peristaltic pumps, custom connectors for dialysis systems, automated chemotherapy compounders, etc.

  • Fixturing - cycle tester (fatigue testing custom connectors); PCBA development; etc.

  • Robotic handling cart - to hold, transport, and transfer surgical robots

  • ​Custom connector design - to improve functionality & improve user experience / aesthetics
